Mommy discovered something when she was at grandma’s house picking up Mia. Mia has her first tooth poking through.

Daddy Dom was SO excited about the discovery of Mia’s first tooth, he didn’t even give me the chance to post about it, yet! Actually, I didn’t even know he posted about it until I was gettin’ comfy in bed last night and checking the site a final time before off to dream land. “Um…you wrote a post today??” He followed up with “Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you.” Sheesh!
Anyways, yes…Mommy DID discover Mia’s first tooth yesterday (at a day shy of 24 weeks old) while Grandma was taking her for a quick stroll down her street between the crazy rain and hail storms we were having.
It was Mia’s first rain, thunder and lightning. I work only a few miles from Grandma’s house, and every time I heard thunder, my heart sank because I had no idea how Mia was reacting to it and I had wished I was there with her to hold her and comfort her if she was scared.
Turns out, she was completely oblivious to it, says Grandma. Relief.
Back to the tooth! When I got to Grandma’s , I joined them at the end of their stroll and took this photo because my baby boo looked absolutely scrumptious, I mean delicious…I mean, adorable. Honestly, I could eat her up.
(Hey…you like this owl beanie? Wish you could have one just like it? Maybe you should stick around…keep coming back, hint-hint….we make things happen around here)
After I snapped the photo, of course, she grinned and in doing so, flashed something white in her mouth. I thought maybe it was a reflection. It took some finger shoving and mouth chasing but I was able to get a better look and sure enough, it was the tippy-top of a tiny tooth! The bottom, left one right in the front row. I did a little happy dance. It took a good 15 minutes before I was able to show it off to Grandma with all of her head bobbing and body thrusting.
When we got home to show Daddy, she wasn’t having it then either. She fussed and screamed and refused to let me get my finger in there. Eventually, it happened and he was just as proud and excited as I was.
This totally explains the fussing lately. And I admit, I have no clue what’s in store for me with a teething baby. I’ve read up on…none of it. All I know is that today, she’s hardly eaten anything (eating 2-3 oz. instead of her normal 5-6oz.) and she’s been coughing A LOT.
Any advice, tips and comments are more than welcome. I’ve got some researching to do.
36 Years Ago, Yesterday…

My husband was born.
I’m speaking for him when I say this, but I’m pretty sure that I can safely say that it took 36 of them before the meaning of life…
the significance of why we’re here…
the reason behind all of this life’s happenings, good and bad up until now…
became clear.
This moment right now (and this goes for ya’ll, too), no matter what you’re doing, where you are or who you are, is just a small moment in a big chain reaction of experiences that began with our first day of birth.
All of us are big, walking works in progress. The way that the weather and the elements erode the earth is the same way in which our experiences erode shape our bodies, minds and souls. Each hardship, joy and lesson we face is just one more priceless part of life that is merely there to prepare us and equip us with the right tools for handling what is next to come.
It’s all been leading up to this.
Isn’t she beautiful?
Hasn’t it all been so worth it? During the real crappy times, did you ever stop to think that maybe that moment was necessary for the big time pay off in the end?
Happy Birthday, Daddy.
Happy Birthday, Husband.
I have a feeling that this year will be your best year yet.
Here’s to many more years to come, full of new knowledge and raw experience….
for this journey is just beginning.
I know there’s more in store, and I can’t wait to embrace it all… together.
I love you. Mia loves you.
P.s. Are you feeling pretty lousy for forgetting Daddy Dom’s birthday? Didn’t get him a gift? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Although it’s a day late, I know he would LOVE to get a HUGE boost in votes for our blog over at Top Baby Blogs. In fact, I think it was his one birthday wish. We’ve been neck n’ neck with a few other blogs for the past few weeks and we’re trying real hard to secure a spot towards the top. Send your birthday wish via 30 seconds of your time (if that) and 2 clicks of the mouse, starting with the link below, followed by clicking the owl on the left on the following page that appears. Thanks! You guys rock!
LIFE: Week 23 {sorry, 3 days late!}

Mia, darling, this week you…
-
…cried for the first time because I left the room. One minute you were jumping happily in your jumper and the next minute you were crying (not fussing) because I left the room for literally 30 seconds. When I reentered, you smiled again. Grrrrrrreat. The separation anxiety has begun.
-
…fell asleep in your jumper for the first time. I was painting a super cool and awesome stencil design (seen here) on the living room wall when suddenly I didn’t hear your noises anymore. I turned around to this….
-
…have been laughing and smiling a whole lot more. It doesn’t take much to get the giggles out of you and to get you flash that gummy grin that melts my heart.
-
…tried carrots (jarred baby food) for the first time and hated it. You made a “are you trying to poison me?!” face and Grandma said you nearly gagged on it. I haven’t tasted it yet, but I imagine I’d do the same thing.
What is your experience with carrots?
-
…tried peaches (jarred baby food) for the first time…since carrots were such a bust. I thought for sure you’d love it (an assumption I made before I tasted it myself) but you hated it as well. After I tasted it, too…I came to the same conclusion as you. It’s not sweet like I thought it would be, instead it’s rather bitter. My bad.
Anyone else notice what I did about the peaches?
-
…are still waking up once in the night for a feeding, but out of nowhere, you’ve started falling back asleep BY YOURSELF after the bottle, WITHOUT me having to rock you back to sleep. I literally lay you back down in bed between Mommy and Daddy and you’re out like a light. Hallelujah! I just scored like, 15 more minutes of sleep each night. Every minute counts, ya’ll.
When did your baby start to sleep through the night. I’m sooooo ready for this next milestone.
These morning faces are the best part of waking up, so much more than Foldgers in my cup. The writers of that catchy little jingle must have never had adorable, beautiful babies like you to wake up to.
-
…have a favorite show. Bubble Guppies! You’ve actually had a favorite show for about 2-3 weeks now but I just forgot to mention it before. This has got to be some kind of milestone for babies, but I haven’t found it in any of the baby books yet (probably because I don’t read any). This is way cool! Not only do you have a favorite show, but you recognize your favorite character on it, Molly (the girl with the pink hair) and you recognize the theme song, too. When it comes on, you look up at the TV in excitement. When Molly appears, you smile, light up, bounce and sometimes “talk” to her. I LOVE watching you watch your show. Also, I record them on the DVR. That’s so grown up of you, baby. Lucky for you, I think this show is adorable and not at all annoying. I actually catch myself pretty often, humming songs from the show throughout my day.
So, do/did any of your babies already have a favorite show? If so, what is it?
This is you, watching….
-
…have been hanging out with Grandma Maria for the past few days. The last time she saw you, you were a colicky 2 week old. She’s only been able to watch you grow through this here blog and has been dying to come back to see you. She flew all the way from Kansas (again) to spend a week with you. You must be somethin’ special, baby girl. That’s love!
Thanks for checking in, readers. We’d appreciate comments AND your vote (once, daily) to help us climb up the ladder at Top Baby Blogs, a directory of…well…top baby blogs (based off of votes).
THANKS!
DIY: Stylish Stenciling {A Review}
October 7, 2012 By Misty 2 Comments
Hey, ya’ll. I’ve got something to share with you today that I’m excited about. I’ve FINALLY finished a project. A stenciling project. I was inspired to start such a DIY project by one of my favorite blogs that I’ve been following lately called Vintage Revivals. This mom has done some really crafty interior work in her home and in the homes of a few others. She’s got a lot of ideas to share and she’s worth checking out. This is the post I came across when I decided to follow in her stenciling footsteps. She makes it look so easy.
I contacted Regina from Royal Design Studio about providing me with one of their stencils for review here at Momista Beginnings. Not only was she willing to send me the stencil of my choice (which was crazy hard to choose because there are so many beautiful stencils that I could imagine on any wall of my home) but she was super nice and accommodating; a pleasure to “work with.” Before we go any further, let me say this: The following is a truthful account of my personal experience with this product. I wasn’t paid for this review. All opinions are my own.
So, anyone who’s ever dared to use a stencil knows what I’m talking about when I say, “Whew!” I guess if you were to use a stencil over a small space or area, then it’s easy-lemon-squeezy (can you tell I work with kiddos?). If you choose to devote most of your free time to a real project, such as stenciling an entire wall of a room or more, then major props to you. I’ve never stenciled before and let me tell you that the phrase “beginners luck” doesn’t apply to everything. You actually need to practice on a disposable surface before attempting to stencil (which I did not do). Originally, I thought that stenciling the entire inside of our spare room would be no problem. I was so wrong. I painted the walls white and then used grey to roll over the stencil with.
After repositioning the stencil and reapplying more paint a few times, I had to start over because the thickness of the lines were so uneven. This happened to me a few times. Also, I was trying to use a smaller stencil on a really big surface, which was literally taking me days (I have a 5 month old, everything takes 5x longer than it should). I finally threw in the towel and painted over all my progress with white again to start over on a much smaller wall in my living room.
By the time I started work in the living room, I had learned by now (through trial and error on the spare room’s wall) that using a foam roller does.not.work! I recommend using a nappier (that a word?) textured roller. It looks and feels like fur, almost. It applies the paint more evenly and I found that the paint wasn’t seeping under the stencil like it did with a foam roller.
Having the right tools is a major part of creating a successful project. That’s why I trusted in Vintage Revivals’ review of her stencil from Royal Design Studio. When I received my stencil, I was impressed with its quality. It’s sturdy yet it’s very malleable.
I was faced with a few tough spots (like around the thermostat and in the corner of the wall) but the material that the stencil is made with allowed me to bend it enough (without creasing or snapping it in half) to fit in those tight spots.
After finishing the project, the stencil still looked as good as it does when it arrived in the mail (after scrubbing the layers of green paint that had built up on it). I’ll definitely get to use my Scallops #2059 stencil again on future projects.
It only took me a few days to stencil on the green scallop print across the wall. It took me a few more days to find the time to hand paint a few touch up spots that needed closer attention. I’m really pleased with the results. All of the hard work and time spent was so worth it.
As you can see, I chose to do a little extra decorating on the wall.
The mirror was found at a garage sale as part of set of 3 frames for a total of $7 (one framed this mirror and the other 2 framed ugly paintings, but I can use the frames alone for something else).
These picture frames were found at Michael’s craft store for about $5 each. I arranged some artwork to tell the story of our family’s beginning, in a nutshell. The top left frame shows a single and lonely bird, followed by a frame with birds that found another that they fancy. The next frame, shown in the below image, symbolizes the love that the 2 birds found; lovebirds. The last frame depicts the beginnings of their family. Cute.
The artwork in the frames were images that I had Googled and then printed using my home printer. Gennine Zlatkis is the artist that created these adorable images which you can find for sale at her Etsy store, HERE.
The colors in the artwork help bring out the same colors I used when decorating with this rug and with the pillows on the sofa, shown at the beginning of this post.
So…whataya think???
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about my experience with stenciling. Also, a big “THANK YOU” to Royal Design Studio for allowing me to review your fab product. And lastly, please don’t forget to vote for Momista Beginnings by clicking the link below. Sadly, we’re slipping down in the ranks over at TopBabyBlogs and we’d greatly appreciate your help in bumping us up the ladder. Thanks.
