“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.
Mia’s first close encounter with a horse.
Dominic and I have high hopes that horses will, in one way or another, be a part of Mia’s childhood. What little girl hasn’t said “I want a pony!” at some point in her little life? Well, we’re not necessarily going to buy her a pony (or maybe we will, who knows, crazier things have happened) but we are lucky enough to have friends who own/live at a ranch only a few blocks away from our house. They board many horses here…like, a lot. The advantage to this is having the opportunity to bring Mia by almost as often as we’d like, to ease her into being comfortable around horses and then eventually getting her up on the saddle and going for pony rides (that will one day turn into horse rides).
I never rode horses as a kid or even as an adult. We just weren’t fortunate enough to have connections or the money to put into that kind of activity (which is fine, no hard feelings there). But I’ve always had a deeper curiosity for these beautiful creatures and have always wanted to somehow be closer to them. Dominic has similar sentiments. I mean, he wants to be a cowboy/farmer/homesteader/ranch owner so….totally makes sense, right?
Mia was a little cautious at first sight of the horses (good girl) but was very much excited and fascinated by them. I have a lot more pictures of Mia interacting with them and helping our friends’ kids feed them. I’ll be posting all about it next week.
Okay now just for fun, here is the portrait from last year’s week 31 in 2013. Dang…so proud to see how far I’ve come with my photography since then.
The following portraits are my favorite from last week‘s entries at Practising Simplicity’s linkup…
