29 Weeks Pregnant {Butternut Squash}

29 weeks down and 11 more to go!

(Average measurements:  15.25 inches, 2.5 pounds)

  • I craved donuts for 4 days until I satisfied that sweet tooth with a dozen from Foster’s Donuts.  As I approached Foster’s, I swear the clouds parted and a ray of sunlight broke through and lit up the building with a magical glow.  I think I even heard angels singing on high.

  • I faced an emotional few days.  Up until now, I’ve been alarmingly calm and stress free.  I’m not sure what triggered it, but I couldn’t help but feel confined and constrained.  I like to be in control, and I suddenly felt a panic from realizing that I have NO control.  This baby is the sole owner of my body right now, and there’s nothing I can do about it.  It’s hard to explain without sounding like a horrible mother.  I do want this baby.  I am excited about this baby.  But, realizing that there’s absolutely nothing I can do to speed up the pregnancy process, or get it over with, or fit into my clothes, or even do the things that I used to do (like exercise, run, shop, go out, drink beer, hike, lay on my stomach, etc)…really got me down.  I felt trapped.  I cried, many times.  I’m not comfortable with my body being taken hostage and control being taken out of  my hands.  Dominic was there to comfort and support me.  He doesn’t understand why I’m feeling this way, and I don’t expect him to because I’m not even sure why, but he at least tries to “get me”.  That’s huge.  Thanks, love.
  • I had a very traumatic “potty experience.”  Let me just give you this one very big piece of advice to any pregnant women…DO NOT, under any circumstances, push harder than what’s normal for you.  If you’ve been occupying the seat for longer than what’s normal/comfortable…just throw in the towel and try again later.  TRUST ME.  Everything’s back to normal now, but man I got a good freak out.
  • Heartburn: 3, Misty: 0 !  I had to leave work early AGAIN for the 2nd time due to gnarly heartburn.  Ugh, miserable.  I wrote about it here, and included some sites to check out on how to avoid and relieve heartburn.
  • Dominic and I had our scheduled hospital tour of Verdugo Hills Hospital.  It was an hour and a half of some very helpful information.  We were one of  about 6 couples.  I feel really good about giving birth there, as long as all goes according to plan.  It has a great sense of community and closeness which you can’t get at larger hospitals.
  • I’ve been having some unusually strong cravings for beer and wine!  I can’t focus on TV shows if there’s wine in the shot.  I just think about how good that looks and about how much I want a bottle glass.  Beer commercials drive me crazy, too.  They look so thirst quenching!

My BabyBump phone app says, “Over the next 3 months your baby is in for a major growth spurt.  Becuase of this, you may have noticed smaller movement inside your belly.  This is due to the increasingly cramped space.  More importantly, you should still notice fetal movement and it’s a goo idea to monitor the frequency.  You can do this by lying down in a quiet place.  It’s often recommended to do this after dinner when many babies are more responsive, generally between 7pm and midnight.  If you have any concerns with your baby’s movement, contact your practitioner.

Your 3rd trimester will bring back some of the fatigue you felt in the first trimester.  Your body is working extra hard to carry oxygen and nutrients to your baby and your diaphragm will be pushed up by your still expanding uterus, causing you to feel short of breath.  Fortunately, your baby will become very active and you can start to count your baby’s kicks each day.”
