The 52 Project 2014: 15/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

Mia: My little rocker.

We’ve had a plastic rocking horse since before she’s been able to ride it. It’s been the one toy of hers that has shown us clear signs of how fast she’s growing up. Gone are the days of her struggling to climb into the thing and later on, trying to even rock. She quickly grew up and figured it out and then graduated to this more complex, wooden rocking horse. Gone are the days of her struggling to climb into this horse. She slides into and out of it with ease and rocks with such grace and force at the same time. I worry, sometimes, that she’s going to fly right out of it. And you know what, if she does I bet she’ll be a bit more careful the next time around. That’s just the kind of parent I am. Live and learn.

Before I know it, Mia will be taking riding lessons on a real horse. We have friends that own a ranch a few blocks away from us who board horses. Sooner than later, she’ll be saddled up for her first horse ride. Witnessing the growth and development of your own child, watching them learn and think and figure and understand and then conquer their tiny, daily challenges is so extraordinary and gratifying. Each day, Mia is thirsty for more and becomes capable of more. Her drive is forceful enough to rub off onto Daddy Dom and I which is a very, very good thing. We need all the extra drive we can get to be able to keep up with her……*gulp*……for life.

Okay now just for fun, this is the portrait from last year’s week 15 in 2013. We had set up our own little “smash cake” photo session for her 1st birthday.

15 week 2013

Speaking of birthdays, this kid turns 2 in 2 weeks!

Like last year, each of my weekly posts will include the following list of my favorite few portraits from the week prior at Practising Simplicity’s linkup. You can check out the rest of the entries from week 14 here.

  • Bespoke: Really adoring the 2nd capture of that sweet sibling embrace/moment.
  • Lamb Loves Fox: Consistently great photos. Both are darling and come with the cutest expressions.
  • The Titled Blog: Who doesn’t love a good puppy-licking-baby’s-face moment. She looks like she’s in puppy love heaven.
  • Loved Handmade: Such a cute silhouette of a little body in the window.
