The 52 Project 2014: 16/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

Mia meets her “big girl cup”.

We’ve been gradually switching out Mia’s “baby” stuff for “big girl” stuff around here lately. She’s been sitting at the dining room table in a regular chair a bit more (we still use the highchair 75% of the time) and now she’s been introduced to her very own cup to try to get her off of her sippy/trainer cups. She has used a cup before and also sips straight from a plastic water bottle or can drink from a juice/milk box with a straw.

This image marks the official first day of the weening her off of her sippy cup movement and the first day of using her very own cup. This is a Winnie the Pooh cup that is part of a plate/bowl/fork set. It was mine when I was (wish I could say “a child”) in junior high, I think. I just thought it was adorable. I don’t think I actually used it but I wanted to save it for my future kids…and here we are!

Mia is drinking a mango mixture from the delicious Naked Juice selection. It has a thicker consistency than most of the other flavors so it travels to her mouth a bit slower than water or her milk would. I think this is a great idea for easing her into using a cup and to get her used to the quickness of liquid. It’s also adorable when the thick juice gives her a nice orange mustache.

Why is she laying down to drink? Because Mama is on the floor trying to take a picture. We started off sitting on our bottoms but as I moved into different positions to get a better shot, Mia mirrored my every move. She loves to do what Mama does, of course.

Now I normally don’t add more than one photo for this weekly post, but it was hard to choose one from this series of images so I’m including the rest of the “outtakes”.

Okay now just for fun, this is the portrait from last year’s week 16 in 2013.

16 week 2013

Like last year, each of my weekly posts will include the following list of my favorite few portraits from the week prior at Practising Simplicity’s linkup. You can check out the rest of the entries from week 15 here.

  • Megpie: I love seeing photos of children gazing out of windows. I always wonder what they’re thinking. And I’m loving the little girl’s outfit!
  • the SAGA by steinsdotter: SUPER (as in hero) cool photo series of her daughter! I love spontaneous photo “shoots”, they always turn out amazing. I definitely need a black eye mask.
  • Awkward Helen: I LOVE ice cream and so does “ladybug”, enjoying her gelato. What kid doesn’t? She’s such a cutie.
  • Sunny & Scout: All I can say for the 2nd portrait is…YES! What good is art if you can’t completely express yourself, right? :)
