The 52 Project 2014: 17/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

Before I get to this week’s portrait, I have to say a big HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY to Mia today! Her party was yesterday and it was a success. I’ll be posting about her party and on her turning two…as soon as I’m done relaxing from all of the cleaning and preparation for the party.

Mia: First Easter egg hunt.

Mia had her first egg hunt at my Aunt’s house this year. Plastic eggs filled with stamps, coins, dollars, stickers, chocolates and candy were scattered in her backyard by my parents and by Daddy Dom and I. This being her first hunt and having no idea what one is, we all hid the eggs in plain sight, pretty much. With each year, I plan to up the difficulty level of finding them, hiding the eggs in tougher spots. The more hidden eggs will have better prizes, too.

Since Mia is the only baby or toddler in the family right now, all eyes were on her. She held a group of 9 adults’ complete attention while she sought out her little treasures. It was so sweet to watch and I’m glad her family was present for this. It made it that much more special. We don’t buy candy or chocolates for Mia and we don’t let her eat them unless on special occasions. She was stoked over her delicious little sweets.

Okay now just for fun, this is the portrait from last year’s week 17 in 2013.

17 week 2013

Like last year, each of my weekly posts will include the following list of my favorite few portraits from the week prior at Practising Simplicity’s linkup. You can check out the rest of the entries from week 16 here.

  • The SAGA by Steinsdotter: Yet another amazing portrait series. Clowning around.
  • Lamb Loves Fox: Maybe my favorite child portrait of all time. In love with this gal’s photog skills and this little, handsome face.
  • Rita Ferro Alvim: Gorgeous captures of 2 siblings enjoying nature.

  1. Gorgeous photo! She is adorable. My little one turns two in a few weeks and I’m still shocked by how big he is daily. My, how quickly they grow.

  2. Ahh, happy birthday little Mia! Our daughter’s are so close in age, Berlin’s is early August. Love the picture!

    • Thanks, Jordan! I love the name Berlin…not sure if I’ve told you that yet. You’ve almost got a two year old on your hands, huh? So many changes during these months leading up to it, it’s amazing! Mostly in the vocabulary and communication department. Thanks for commenting.

  3. Loving those leggings!

  4. oh, that golden, hazy light is too perfect. <3
