the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

Mia: The sweetest moment from her 2nd birthday party.

Mia turned two over the weekend. I plan to put together a meaty post on all the details but for now, you’ve just got to see this.

Here’s the scene: Standing in front of Mia are all of the guests of her party. I’d say there’s about 25 of them gathered around. We’re in the middle of singing the “Happy Birthday” song to her…literally, in the middle. Daddy was squatting right beside her, ready to “help” her blow out her candle when the song ended. Mia’s eyes lit up as the song began, not sure of what was going on but got that all of it was for her. She looked over at Daddy and noticed his bandaged fingers (with black electrical tape, mind you). And even though we were all singing to her, she grabbed his hand and said “Daddy, owie!” while she brought it to her lips for a kiss.

Seriously, kid?! MY. HEART. MELTED.

This is Daddy Dom’s most favorite act of kindness that Mia does. She’s been doing this for about a month now. She knows that Daddy has owies on his hands pretty regularly (he’s in landscaping and has a very physical job…which is also why his hand appears to be dirty. It’s not, his hands are just permanently “stained”, cracked and rough. A working man’s hands). She checks them out quite often to find boo boos that need her love.

This was, like I said, the sweetest and most touching moment from the day (at least for us parents). Oh, the love.

Okay now just for fun, this is the portrait from last year’s week 18 in 2013 at Mia’s first birthday party.

18 week 2013

Like last year, each of my weekly posts will include the following list of my favorite few portraits from the week prior at Practising Simplicity’s linkup. You can check out the rest of the entries from week 17 here.

  • lil muse lily: How I love to see children have a passion for art (I mean, I was an art teacher for 12 years so…)
  • Fields of Sage: Sage has to be one of the cutest girls ever. Yup. And snuggly little Alby melts my heart.
  • Maxabella Loves: Fishing! …an activity that my husband can’t wait to teach to our Mia. These portraits capture the joy of a catch so well.
  • Honey and Fizz: Shaved ice, pool dives and snorkeling?! Um, yes please!!! These portraits scream FUN in the sun.
