The 52 Project 2014: 19/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE. 19 week 2014

Mia: My little artist!

It’s official, her very first piece of actual artwork (not scribble) is up on the fridge. And…Mia put it there herself. It looks like I’m that parent that displays important pieces of paper on our refrigerator. Aren’t most of us? Do you have more creative ways of displaying keepsakes (temporary or not)? I’d love to hear about them. I’ve seen one idea of hanging colorfully painted clipboards on a wall and using them as “frames” to easily switch up the constant production of kids’ artwork. For now, our fridge will do just fine but I’m sure I’ll eventually move past it.

Mia busted out one of her birthday gifts the other day to create her masterpiece and even wore her new art apron for the project. I’ll be writing a detailed post about it, actually, because it’s such a great product for toddlers! I won’t be getting into it now so you’ll just have to come back later to see what it’s all about. Mia caught onto the process wonderfully and was just as proud of herself and excited to hang it up on the fridge with magnets as she was to paint with her new “toy”. As an ex art teacher of over 10 years, I can’t tell you how proud it makes me to see Mia so interested in art.

Okay now just for fun, this is the portrait from last year’s week 19 in 2013 at the park.
