The 52 Project 2014: 8/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

8 week 2014 900*mommy fail: forgetting to put on a diaper cover over her tights*

I think you just claimed this ball pit as your own, as you kicked back and crowned yourself queen of the party with a Hello Kitty crown that does not belong to you.

Latest interests:

  • Trying things on your head (or putting them on Mommy’s, Daddy’s and even the dog’s head). It’s very unlike you to take interest in a crown. I was very surprised to see you put this on and actually wear it (it was backwards at one point) for over 10 minutes. You threw daggers out of your eyes at anyone who approached you to take it off. Other items that have recently made it onto your head for a short period of time at home are: a plastic bucket, a pink beanie, Daddy’s hats, Mommy’s underwear.
  • Balls. Lately at home, you play a one-man game of “fetch” with your toy balls. You’ll throw them in any open area, say “where? where?”, and will then go seek them out and repeat the same cycle again and again. You’re also mastering the art of kicking a ball. I can only imagine the excitement you felt when you first laid your eyes on this colorful ball pit. You dove in, dove out, rolled around in them, threw them out onto the ground and carried a few around with you, even into the bounce house. And btw, this idea of pouring plastic balls into an empty, inflatable pool is genius. The other kids at the party LOVED it!
  • Pointing out and kissing “owies”. Notice the scraped up elbow? The morning of the party, you tripped over your own feet (you’re so clumsy!) on your short walk from the front door of our house to the car. There were a few tears and some blood. Your knee got scratched up, too. Since that day, you’ve pointed out your owies every single time they’ve been exposed (while changing into and out of clothes) by touching them and saying “Oh! Ow! Owie!” You also give yours and Mommy’s and Daddy’s owies many kisses.

Just for fun, this is the portrait from last year’s week 7 in 2013.

8 week 2013

Like last year, each of my weekly posts will include the following list of my favorite few portraits from the week prior at Practising Simplicity’s linkup. You can check out the rest of the entries from week 7 here.

  • Malt Memories: “Untamed Beauty” is such a fitting caption for this portrait. What a gorgeous child.
  • The Red Cat Inn: How cool are these captures of water in her portraits?!
  • Dressing Ivana: Sophia’s portrait in the sink? I mean. And that shot of the two together? C’mon!
  • Mother Down Under: My Mia loves entertaining herself with her own shadows, too, before nap/bedtime. How sweet are those finger puppets?
  • Manda Townsend: Dinos, handstands and cannonballs. Quite the collection of portraits :)

*P.s. Each week gets harder to choose just a handful of portraits. These bloggers have really been stepping up the creativity and talent! I really love discovering and following new blogs through this linkup. There have been many so far :)

*P.s.s Sorry for the lack of posts over the last week. I’m facing a bit of a creative block and am in a blogging rut. I’m working on it, though, and hope to start pumping out more content fairly soon. Hang in there with me.

  1. How adorable is she trying to put on a princess crown! And the fact, she “stole” it makes this photo priceless! My twins love playing in their ball pit. Theirs is a little play gym with a slide, but I wish I had thought of just using a kiddie pool. Add water in the summer for a splish-splash activity, and that is sure to bring smiles.

    • Geez, this kid is a little bandit I tell ya. We’ve GOT to get a ball pit, too. Definitely doing this idea for her 2nd birthday in a few months. Love the summer idea. Thanks for the comment.

  2. such a gorgeous photograph — i just love those colourful balls. and of course little mia bug with her crown, precious. <3

  3. I LOVE that you have last years photos to look back at! Also…um…you’re supposed to put a diaper cover over tights?! Oops… :-) Thanks for the link back to my blog too!
