As I mentioned HERE, I made a pretty delicious breakfast for my husband for our first Father’s Day. I love to bake and cook and try out new recipes. I’ll definitely be making this one again, hopefully sooner than later.
Biscuits and Gravy
I found this recipe HERE at Foodnetwork.com.
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. sugar (I’m adding a little more next time)
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
Milk gravy (recipe follows, which I tweaked a bit)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the shortening with a fork until it looks like cornmeal. Add the buttermilk, a little at a time, stirring constantly until well mixed.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly 2 or 3 times. Roll out the dough with a floured rolling pin to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch cutter. (Can be any size or thickness you like)
Place the biscuits in a greased iron skillet (I used shortening). Gently press down top of biscuits. Brush the biscuits with half the melted butter…(cont. on photo)
Milk Gravy
Ingredients:
Leftover sausage grease
1/8 cup bacon grease (I didn’t measure this out, just used what was left in pan)
1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 cups warm milk (I’ll add more next time for a creamier gravy)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 Tbsp. melted butter
Directions:
Breakfast Potatoes
Ingredients:
Potatoes (amount depends on # of servings)
Red and green bell peppers, chopped (I used 1/2 of each)
Yellow onion, chopped (Any amount you prefer)
Paprika
Cayenne Pepper
Garlic powder
Salt & Pepper
Directions:
Once you’ve added and seasoned the potatoes, do not stir (this will mash them), instead use a spatula and after about 5 minutes, flip them over. Continue to do this until they’re at desired tenderness.
Creamy Scrambled Cheese Eggs
Ingredients:
Eggs (amount depends on # of servings. I used 5 medium eggs)
1 generous Tbsp. of sour cream
1 Tbsp. water
Shredded Cheddar Cheese (any amount desired. I used a small handful)
Salt & Pepper
Directions:
Melt 1-2 Tbsp. butter in a pan. Pour egg mixture into pan, on low/medium heat and stir occasionally. Once eggs are about halfway done, sprinkle in the shredded cheese and continue to stir until cooked to your liking.
There you have it! A really delicious breakfast that took me about 1 1/2 hours to make (by myself)…and it was my 1st time making all 3 of these dishes.
