A Portrait A Week: 28/52

“A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013.”

While enjoying a beautiful day at the park for Daddy Dom’s annual family picnic, Mia had her first make-out session with an orange. She’s had only a few small pieces of an orange before, but never full contact like this. She loved it. I’m a first-time mom, and I’ve hesitated on allowing Mia to eat oranges before because of how acidic they are and I thought it safest for her tummy to wait until after she’s a year old (she’s 14 months, now). She was a colic baby for her first 3 months of life and I was urged not to eat a whole list of foods that may cause her an upset tummy through my breast milk. Anything acidic (oranges, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce…) was on that list and so I’ve avoided them altogether even now. It’s the worst feeling, holding your screaming child in your arms, and there’s nothing you can do to ease the pain (indigestion? acid reflux? gas?).

Have any of you done the same (held off on feeding your kid acidic foods)? Am I overly paranoid or cautious?

Here are some of my favorite “portraits” from week 27 (last week): This little darling’s mid-drift fashion sense, the sweetest bunny cuddle ever, a red-headed collection of rolls with a smile, blue eyed boy in front of a popping chevron print, a smile and arms that says it all, a stunning girl with piercing blue eyes.

You can find plenty more portraits here…
