LIFE: 6 Months! {Driving Miss Mia}

6 months is around the time when babies start learning to drive, right? I think I read that somewhere. Good for hand/eye coordination.

I remember sitting on my parents’ laps while they drove the car when I was a kid. What a thrill! This is Mia’s first time and I’m sure it won’t be her last. Don’t worry, Daddy Dom is only driving up our driveway…very slowly. We made sure she wore her seatbelt minutes before this when she drove on the freeway.

Relax, I’m kidding.

That face!

It’s the simplest moments like this, that you simply want to last a lifetime.

So, I’ve committed another “mommy fail.” This post is a whole week late! Ugh, I’ve been crazy busy making her costume for Halloween. Totally worth it.

Turning 6 months old sorta got overlooked. I do think it’s exciting, though. When you say “half a year old”, that sounds much older than it actually feels. It’s definitely time to start gathering ideas, images and even stuff for her FIRST Birthday! It’s pretty amazing how much they grow in such a short period of time. The only thing I’ve grown in the last 6 months is my waistline and hips! And, a bit of an attitude as my husband can attest to.

What’s new with our Mia bug? Well…

  • She’s been making new sounds with her mouth. She’s been blowing “raspberries” as I’ve heard it’s called. It’s like she’s spitting while blowing at the same time, making little bubbles on her lips and humming sounds at the same time. It’s quite funny, especially when she mimics me when I do it. Yup, she’s finally mimicked something!
  • We’ve been trying to put her to sleep for her naps in the crib rather than in my arms while rocking her and singing to her. Momma’s getting pretty darn tired these days and falling asleep in the crib is much better for my back.
  • Mia is trying her hardest at crawling. She’ll get up on her hands and knees and will assume the crawling position, only to rock back and forth for a while before slipping back down onto her tummy. She kind of throws her weight around in a waddle sort of floppy way when she travels on the floor. She looks intoxicated.
  • Mia had her 6 month check-up at the doctor’s office. She weighs in at 17 lbs. 4 oz. (85th percentile, which has gone down from being in the 90th) and she measures in at 26 1/4 inches (80th percentile, which has gone down from being in the 90th, as well). She received 3 shots (ouch!) which were, of course, followed by screams and tears. Everything else checks in okay. We were given the green light to introduce chicken and beef, baby food style all mashed up in the jars. Right on.

Thanks, friends, for stopping by and catching up with us. Too bad we couldn’t have done it over breakfast or just a cup of coffee. Maybe next time.
