LIFE: Week 21 {Booty Bumps!}

(crocheted headband, c/0 Stitches For Sisters)

Mia, this week you…

  • …have been liking Daddy a bit more. You’ve been getting over your “Mommy only” phase but you aren’t completely out of it just yet. You still give him grief when it comes to putting you down for a nap or for the night.
  • …tried your very first jarred baby food: apples! I totally thought you’d love it but one little jar has lasted 2 days so far. It’s a bit bitter and you make the funniest squinty faces when you taste it. Your whole face puckers up and you throw your hands up and down. You only eat about 4-5 spoons of it until you seal your lips shut. This makes me wonder if different brands of baby food taste differently. Know what that means? Blind taste testing! Yup, I’m going to buy a jar of apple food from each brand on the shelf and taste them all. I’ll be posting my results as soon as they’re in. Have any parents out there noticed any brand differences? Has your baby preferred a particular one over others?
  • …are super grabby! I’ll have something in my hand for about 2 seconds (while I’m holding you) before you start reaching for it to put into your mouth. I’ve been wondering if there’s more to this behavior than just tasting everything. Maybe babies just use their tongues like an extra hand or finger and are wanting to feel everything with it. That’s my current theory and I’m sticking to it.
  • …have been squishing my face with your tiny little hand! When I rock you to sleep in my arms, you reach up every time and grab my bottom lip, pull at it, squish my mouth in your hand, squeeze my nose and scratch at my cheeks. Let’s just say that your fingernails have been very well manicured lately.
  • …have been sleeping more with Mommy and Daddy in bed at night. Now that I’m back at work and am actually needing my sleep (and I’m still the one who wakes in the middle of the night to feed and change you), I’ve been taking the easy way out and bringing you into bed with me when you wake up in your crib (anywhere from 12:30am-3am). You always sleep better there and I just don’t have it in me right now to take the time and energy and give up on my sleep to put you back to sleep in your crib. You always wake up a few more times in the night if I do. Uh, uh…I don’t care at this point if it’s creating a “bad” sleeping habit. I like cuddling with you, I like waking up to you and I certainly like getting more sleep (and you do as well). If I were a stay at home mom, things would be different, but I’m a working mom. The time will come when you will prefer your crib over our bed, but for now, this works for us.
  • …have what looks to be the beginning of a diaper rash!  Oh No!!!  Grandma spotted it yesterday when she gave you a bath. She could feel a difference in your skin on your booty…she felt some small bumps. When I changed you later that night, I noticed the small bumps and slight redness had spread just a little to your hoo-ha region. Now, I’m fighting it with using a sample of “Butt Paste” that I have and when that runs out, I’ll be using Desitin with each changing. Any parents have any advice on how to get rid of this before it gets any worse? I think I’ll let you go commando for a few hours on a waterproof surface to help dry you out.
  • …been listening to me sing to you every time I put you to sleep. Everyday I sing to you The Alphabet Song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I’m a Little Teacup and You Are My Sunshine. Singing always works with getting you to doze off. I definitely am NOT a singer, but it’s nice to know that my voice soothes you.

My mom said you look like a “viejita” in this picture. That means “little old lady” in Spanish.

 Thanks, “Uncle” Jason for the cute polka dot skirt!

    Dominic…She's adorable! And, you look like you love being a Daddy :) Congratulations again. Hey…there's a consignment sale that sells baby things quite cheap and I think it's this weekend in Burbank. A friend of mine who inherited a couple of grandchildren gets lots of things there. I'll let you know if I can score some hand me downs from my neighbors who have twins…a boy and a girl. Love to the new family….The Vossmeyers xoxo

  3. Use good old fashioned aquaphor on her. I also swear by the Burts Bees diaper cream. I still use it on Mac because she gets irritated in the nether regions SUPER easy. Those are my 2 go to items for her and I've been using them for the last 4 1/2 yrs. I have a tube upstairs, downstairs and in my purse ;)
