Rainbow Fish {Miss Misty’s Art Class}

 I am currently working on this art project with my 4 year old students for their Mother’s Day gift to Mom.  We’re making our own version of the “rainbow fish” from the children’s book, The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister.

I first break down the steps of drawing the fish using pencil on a piece of watercolor paper.   I use a fine tip Sharpie to trace all of their pencil lines.  My students then use crayons to color in the fish and bubbles.  We create the underwater background with watercolor paint and it is here where they can see how the waxy crayons can “resist” the paint.  The finishing touch is to sprinkle silver glitter on a select few scales, just like the fish in the story has.
