Raise Money For Ashlynn’s Memorial Fund

I’d like to take this opportunity of having a blog, to share with you such a sad occurrence from this past week involving the family of an old high school buddy of my husband.  That buddy’s sister has suffered such a loss; the death of her 4 month old baby.  Dominic and I have a 4 month old baby.  The news of this really hit home for us.  We’ve both shed tears, just trying to imagine, to fathom, to wrap our heads around the very idea of losing our precious little girl and at such a young age. It’s just unimaginable. It’s a position I hope and pray to never be in. I get choked up, I shudder, my heart skips a beat and then sinks into the very pit of my stomach just thinking about it. I’ve never met this family and Dominic has not remained close with his old buddy, but despite that, we felt compelled to help…even though our contribution was small compared to many others.  We don’t know the exact details of this tragedy, and we don’t need to know…we just know it affected us.  We also know we’d be so appreciative of any help from our community if we are ever faced with such devastation.

The family has created a memorial fund for their little angel.  Here is the link to the website where you will find a few pictures of baby Ashlynn, along with the chance to donate financial assistance towards her private memorial.  Anything will help. Last I checked, they’ve raised 65% of their goal of $12,500.  How amazing and heartwarming is that? Their fundraiser ends on September 1st, 2012.

I browsed the Internet for some comforting words for a time like this.  I came across this poem and couldn’t even read it aloud to my husband without having tears stream down my face.  The writer is unknown.  I think it’s quite touching.

I thought of you and closed my eyes,
And prayed to God today.
I asked what makes a Mother,
And I know I heard him say:
A mother has a baby,
This we know is true.
But, God, can you be a mother,
When your baby’s not with you?
Yes, you can he replied,
With confidence in his voice.
I give many women babies,
When they leave is not thier choice.
Some I send for a lifetime,
And others for a day.
And some I send to feel your womb,
But theres no need to stay.
I just don’t understand this God,
I want my baby here.
He took a breath and cleared his throat,
And then I saw a tear.
I wish that I could show you,
What your child is doing today,
If you could see your child smile,
With other children who say:
We go to earth and learn our lessons,
Of love and life and fear.
My mommy loved me oh so much,
I got to come straight here.
I feel so lucky to have a mom,
Who had so much love for me.
I learned my lessons very quickly,
My mommy set me free.
I miss my mommy oh so much,
But I visit her each day.
When she goes to sleep,
On her pillow’s where I lay.
I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek,
And whisper in her ear.
“Mommy don’t be sad today, I’m your baby and I’m here.”
So you see my dear sweet one,
Your children are Ok.
Your babies are here in My home,
They’ll be at heavens gate for you.
So now you see what makes a mother.
It’s the feeling in your heart.
It’s the love you had so much of,
Right from the very start.
Though some on earth may not realize you are a mother,
until their time is done.
They’ll be up here with Me one day,
And you’ll know that you’re the best one!

Give your children extra love today, just because you can.

  1. My heart is broken for this family. I can't even imagine.
