She’s 2 months old!

Oh, what an exciting day in the world of Mia!  She’s 2 months old today, which I’m pretty sure means that she’s not a “newborn” anymore.  She’s our little “infant” now.  Gone are the days of colic, daily screams and screeches, and fumbling parents.  No, neither of us are perfect (yet) but each day/week gets better for everyone.  I’m finally eating up this whole motherhood thing.  I love it, I crave it, and I’m completely consumed by it.  Oh, what a feeling.

It’s absolutely fascinating to watch Mia grow and develop everyday.  I’ve been browsing the Internet on what to expect from our baby at 2 months and it seems that Mia is right on track…and maybe even a bit quicker.

2 days ago, getting a bath at Grandma’s house

I’ve read that her schedule should become more predictable around this time, and it has.  No, it’s not absolutely consistent everyday, but she takes a long nap every morning, a few catnaps through the day and sometimes a decent nap in the evening.  She’s spending only a little more time on her own in the play yard or swing while she’s awake, but she still mostly prefers to be held. At night, she hits the hay with Mommy and Daddy, only waking up 2-3 times during the night for some grub.

I can’t stand how cute she is.

I read that Mia can differentiate familiar voices from other sounds and that she’s becoming a better listener.  True!  She definitely looks to see where sounds and noises are coming from.  She knows my voice and responds to my “baby talk” with different facial expressions…like raising her eyebrows and opening her eyes widely.

One new development we’ve noticed is that she’s drooling and “making bubbles” on her lips all the time now.  I just read that around 2 months (she actually started this about a week or 2 ago), that she’ll start to drool and that her mouth is producing more saliva than she can swallow.  Also, she’ll be putting everything in her mouth which is true, too.  Mostly, she just shoves her little fist in it and licks at it and sucks on it, making some pretty funny noises.  I guess we should start attaching a bib to her everyday.

Love this girl

For the past week, Mia has been making the cutest of sounds.  We’ve been hearing gurgles, grunts, squeals and some sweet coos.  Just yesterday, her and I had a 3 minute conversation consisting of coos, oohs, and aahs.  She was totally talking to me and responding!

Now for the most highly anticipated milestone…a smile.  She smiled!  She smiles everyday now and has been for the past week.  Not just a meaningless one in her sleep, but a giant gummy grin when she sees my face!  She definitely recognizes me and I’m so thrilled that she’s happy to see me.  She is her smiliest (yup, made up word) in the mornings and I take full advantage of this by spending as much time as I can making silly faces and noises at her to promote her interactions.  She’s so close to her first laugh.  She tries and wants to, but only gets out a cute little coo with her smile.

Get a load of that gummy grin! The first official photo of it :)

Happy 2 months, my darling.  We can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next.  We love you.
