The 52 Project 2014: 27/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

Mia the Explorer.

This was taken from our first family hike of the summer.

Don’t let that smile fool you. She was a pill the entire way to this point. This little cutie patootie screamed and cried and stomped her way into my arms and was carried throughout the trail until we reached the water. She’s most definitely in a clingy phase. Who am I kidding, she’s been a needy, contact desiring kid since she was born but it was getting better until recently. Thank you, new preschool schedule.

Anyways, it was such a relief to finally reach this point and hear those magic words come from her mouth, “I want down, Mommy.” She was in her element, splishing and splashing and shuffling through the water. Not only was she refreshed by the cool water, but her mood and energy were refreshed, too. She hiked the whole way back to our car from here. I got to hang back and snap some photos of her, Daddy Dom and the dogs. I posted about it HERE.

Observing Mia through the hike and seeing how carefree and excited she was in that water made me think of a specific sign I saw on a hike I took by myself about 4 years ago (which explains the healthy hair, youthful complexion and thinner face!). “May your search through nature lead you to yourself.” I love that quote and I felt its truth through Mia on our recent hike. I hope to integrate nature into our family’s everyday life a lot more often, especially now that Mia is becoming more mature and mobile. Who couldn’t use more of fresh air, greenery, chirping birds, the sound of running water, peace, a disconnect from technology and sunshine in their life. Honestly, I think that’s what is missing from most people’s lives. Next time someone tells you “GO TAKE A HIKE!”, you probably should.

Okay now just for fun, here is the portrait from last year’s week 27 in 2013 when we took Mia to the zoo for the first time.
