The 52 Project 2014: 28/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

This week I couldn’t decided between these two, both taken from our pool day on the 4th of July.

It’s rare when Mia actually looks at the camera and smiles. I know, those don’t necessarily make the best photos. I like candid photos, myself. But as her Mama, it’s nice to have a few like this in my collection. She’s had watermelon before (loves it like Mama does), but I usually cube it and she eats it with a fork. This was the first time she’d been given slices. I’ll admit it, I purposely sliced them to set her up for some classic watermelon eating photos. I wish she were holding that slice a little higher, or that I had lowered the camera by an inch or so, to get the watermelon in the shot. Almost perfect.

DSC_1184-2This photo above had to make the cut this week because this is her new phony fussy face. It cracks me up. I don’t know where she got this from. Daddy Dom had grabbed our dog, Roxi, and dragged her into the pool with him. Mia stood by the edge of the pool and decided to be dramatic. She was “upset” either because she wasn’t the center of attention anymore, or because she was worried about Roxi’s safety. It was unclear. But I called “phony bologna.”

That hand to her face is like her latest signature move. She does it when she’s “phony fussing” AND when she sneaks off into the corner to poop AND when she’s fake laughing at something to be silly AND when she’s genuinely nervous or scared about something.

Okay now just for fun, here is the portrait from last year’s week 28 in 2013 when Mia tasted an orange for the first time. Funny, again (for like the 4th time) my portraits from last year and this year share a similar subject: firsts with food.

  1. So summer. So happy/clever. So cute!

(and thanks for the supersweet comment you left over at my place)

  2. Gorgeous! And I don’t have that hat, but I have the bathing suit and sandals that go with it! Haha

    • Um, OF COURSE you do! Your girl has every bathing suit ever made ;) I just saw the matching suit online and was so tempted to buy it…it’s seriously too cute. The hat was a gift and I didn’t even know that there were more pieces to it until the other day. Hmm…maybe I’ll head back over to the website tonight and just buy it. Thanks for the comment.

  3. Yup… still love this kid!

  4. Look at you again, so on top of it! I need to take pointers from you, I’m so impressed. :)
Thank you AGAIN for the love, you are the absolute sweetest! I personally love the first shot. Its perfect. Her smile, the hat…she will love this photo when she grows up.

    • Listen, when you don’t have much to blog about it’s posts like these (um, my only weekly post that I’ve committed to) that I look forward to completing just to give my blog some content! And yes, I love taking pictures so it’s easy to be on the ball with something you’re excited about :) Thanks for the comment, Jordan.
