The 52 Project 2014: 39/52

the 52 project2“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014. My goal for the year: highlight her most recently acquired and/or favorite skill, activity, or milestone, in hopes to document her blossoming personality and mind as well as her physical appearance. ” See my series HERE.

Mia the explorer.

I love watching this kid take off, wander and satisfy her curiosities of the world around her.

The family went to Santa Barbara for the day (a city we love) and this photo was taken in the outdoor nature section of their natural history museum. They had a large, designated area that allowed kids to roam, climb, learn and play. There were pieces to a teepee laying around, encouraging kids to figure out how to put them together. There was a cubby filled with old pots and pans near a sand pit, which sparked Mia’s creativity to arrange them all into a long, single-file line.

When Mia saw these tree stumps, she knew just what they were for. When I look at them, I think of what a great setting this is for family pictures (which we have yet to have taken for our family). I love including natural elements into a photo session.

Another thought that crosses my mind when I see Mia climbing around the stumps is that within a blink of an eye, I’ll be watching her and her sibling playing on them together. I’m currently about 13 weeks pregnant and I often get lost in thought, wondering how my 2 kids will get along, what kinds of adventures will they take on together, what kinds of mischief will they get into? But for now, this kid will remain the center of attention.

Okay now just for fun, here is the portrait from last year’s week 39 in 2013 when I snapped a few photos of Mia at a park for a clothing company review.
