You know you’re a mom when… (Wednesday)

In motherhood, there are some unexpected behaviors a mom experiences that she could have never prepared herself for. Probably because they’re pretty ridiculous, sometimes embarrassing and are most likely not her finest moments. But, one huge lesson learned in motherhood is that there will be times you’ll just have to laugh at yourself and at life, to keep your sanity in tact.

Below are 5 actual, true story moments that I’ve had or continue to experience as a mom. Can you relate? Please say, “Yes!” Check out my entire “You know you’re a mom when…” series here.

 You know you’re a mom when…

1) …the thought of a family day/weekend trip sounds like a lot of work, rather than an actual vacation. Eh, I’d rather stay home and keep on point with my routine so I can get a few sporadic hours of peace, thank you! (May apply more to moms of newborns/infants/toddlers.)

2) …you’ve washed the same load of laundry multiple times over the span of a few days because you keep forgetting to dry it!

3) …you catch yourself cutting your own meal into bite-size pieces before taking the first bite. Hope no one else saw that.

4) …you often find yourself announcing in your home exactly what you’re doing and where you can be found, each time you move throughout the house.

5) …you’ve completely knocked out with a pacifier in your mouth. On this particular occasion, it was a cold night and I was warming it up for Mia when she was a wee one. Husband captured the evidence. #sorrynotsorry

  1. The picture is a priceless memory of when Mia was a young one. I am not even a mommy yet and I find myself redoing laundry because I forget to put it into the dryer. The laughable moments of life.

  2. Okay I’ve never done #5 (too funny though) but #2 is the story of my life!!

  3. Great post and soooo true! The pic of you is hilarious– oh what we do for our children ;)

  4. I’m glad I’m not the only one that has problems remembering to dry the laundry. =) And #1 is how I feel every Saturday. For my husband and kids it’s “oh let’s pick up and go”. For me it’s okay, we need snacks, water, a sweater (for 2 littles), possibly a spare shirt (messy little), toys for the car, books to read, hand sanitizer….Ahh, let’s not leave the house at all I’m too tired just thinking about it.

  5. Haha, that is adorable! The pictures is priceless. Our parents would love that and can totally relate I’m sure. There are so many things to learn from being a parent. I have two nephews and I’ve already learned a ton from them! Can’t wait to have some of my own.

  6. Haha, so true! The things we do for our kiddos!

  7. I am awful at talking out loud. My husband always asks, “who are you talking to?” “The baby of course!” I think he thinks I am crazy…

  8. The laundry one is so me! Speaking of laundry…. I think I forgot to switch it over last night. Thanks for the reminder.
Oh and I’m currently packing for the cottage with 3 under 3 – your statement was dead on.

  9. haha This is SO TRUE! #2 happens to me weekly! I am so forgetful!

  10. That really made me giggle!!! So so true :) x

  11. Loved reading this! #1 is so true – the idea of planning a trip where we could either make it home in time for baby’s nap, or hope she wouldn’t fall asleep at the wrong time outside, making sure we packed everything we needed – we were practically hermits for the first year too! But it gets easier – hang in there!

  12. haha this was fun to read. I am a first time mom of a five month old and I can definitely relate. Especially when it comes to leaving the house for a “get away “because it’s way more work for mom.

  13. This is awesome! Haha! :) I absolutely love these kinds of posts because they are SO true! I especially love the paci picture. I’ve had my kiddos’ pacis in my mouth more times than I can count. Thankfully I have no photo evidence – that I know of! LOL!

  14. LOL! Great posts. #1 resonates with me a lot.

  15. Every single one!!! I’m a mom to 3 little geeklines and I find myself doing things for myself I do for them all the time or my husband and I will joke around and treat each other like the littles. haha

  16. I’m with you on staycations. I have taken a whole week off for our family vacation, but for the life of me I cannot get motivated! I feel like there are so many things to get done and it won’t feel like a a action for me.

  17. That photo of you and your daughter is adorable, even with the pacifier in your mouth. Tried and true mom!

  18. Ha! We never did pacifiers…but I can relate on everything else!!!

  19. OH my gosh too funny!!!! I can totally relate to washing the clothes over and over again. And they sit in the dryer for days, until my hubby finally gets sick of them and he folds them, WIN! Congrats on baby #2!

  20. hahaha! First laugh of the day with your paci! Oh the things we do for our kids, right? You know you’re a mom when you decide it’s okay to wear the same winter coat for the seventh winter because everyone else also needs new winter coats…again…eight years in a row.

  21. HAHAHA the last one!!!!!!! I can definitely relate to #2. Last week I even ran the clothes through the wash and realized I never put the damn laundry detergent in the machine and had to redo it. But I definitely forget to dry the clothes sometimes for like 2 days!
